José Amezcua, President

José began his journey into beekeeping when he chose “killer bees” as the subject of a high school science project. Shortly there after, he received his first hive of bees from a family friend.

José began attending BASC meetings in 2010 and has served as the President of the Beekeepers Association of Southern California since 2017.

José’s desire and willingness to educate new beekeepers is unfounded. He will always find the time to give advice and recommendations to BASC members. He also enjoys selling honey at farmer's markets and performing bee rescues in the Southern California region.

Glen Golden, Vice President

Glen started keeping bees in 2015 while attending beekeeping classes presented by the Beekeepers Association of Southern California. Glen practices a natural style of beekeeping with respect to the seasons and the environment.

Glen thrives on mentoring new beekeepers at his apiary located in Perris, CA. He also enjoys educating the public on the benefits of keeping bees and the many uses of products from a bee hive.

Glen served BASC as the Vice President in 2020 and Secretary in 2023.

Sandy Tabako, Treasurer

Sandy began her interest in beekeeping in 2006 when a swarm of bees took up residence in her front yard. Both terrified and intrigued, she became a sponge, soaking up all things honeybee related. After two years of tagging along with other beekeepers, she acquired her own hives.

In 2008, Sandy joined BASC and volunteered for every event that she was offered, while attending BASC board meetings for a “behind-the-scenes look” and was then appointed Member at Large. In 2019, Sandy was elected Treasurer for 2020 and has served BASC as Treasurer since then.

The backbone of BASC, you will find Sandy at most community outreach and fundraising events, designing our beautiful booths and volunteering countless hours.

Even after 18 years, Sandy is still a constant student of all things beekeeping. Her knowledge is vast and impeccable. If you have a chance to attend one of her classes, do not miss it!

Raquel Ramirez, Secretary

The rookie of the group, Raquel studied beekeeping for three years prior to getting her first hive as a Christmas present in 2022. Subsequently, she joined BASC in January 2023 and purchased her first two hives that spring.

BASC has recognized Raquel for her dedication to becoming a beekeeper as she has gone above and beyond in gaining her education and hands-on beekeeping experience. Raquel is currently enrolled in the California Master Beekeeper Program provided by UC Davis.

In addition to serving as the BASC Secretary, some of Raquel's accomplishments include serving as the social media director for BASC, belonging to four of the area's local beekeeping associations, and volunteering and assisting with event coordination and planning for BASC.
